Growth Commission welcomes Kemi Badenoch’s pledge to repeal the Climate Change Act 2008
Responding to Kemi Badenoch’s pledge that a future Conservative government would repeal the 2008 Climate Change Act, Shanker Singham, Chairman of The Growth Commission, said:
“Today’s intervention from the Leader of the Opposition is an extremely welcome response to The Growth Commission’s previous calls for the Climate Change Act to be repealed.
“The UK’s astronomical energy costs – now the most expensive in the world – can principally be attributed to the effects of this single disastrous piece of legislation. There are many ways in which climate change can be tackled, but this law has had devastating consequences for British businesses and families, and it is no coincidence that since its passage, GDP per capita in the UK has stagnated.
“The prevailing approach of the current and previous governments to net zero goals has done remarkably little for the environment at huge economic cost. A rethink is long overdue.”
