Six former Heads of Government join Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board
The Growth Commission today announces six former national leaders as members of its newly-established International Advisory Board.
The former heads of government comprising the IAB have huge experience on which our Commissioners will be privileged to draw as they continue to focus on economic analysis of the policies which will best deliver growth for Western economies.
The membership of the International Advisory Board of The Growth Commission is as follows:
- Tony Abbott – Former Prime Minister of Australia
- Janez Janša – Former Prime Minister of Slovenia
- Sebastian Kurz – Former Chancellor of Austria
- Mateusz Morawiecki – Former Prime Minister of Poland
- Petr Nečas – Former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
- Liz Truss – Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Welcoming their appointments, Shanker Singham, Chairman of The Growth Commission, said:
“We are delighted to welcome these six former leaders to our International Advisory Board. The Growth Commission has developed proposals for economic growth and costed the harm done to our economies by anti-growth policies; the challenge has been to implement these reforms. Reform is hard, and these leaders have been at the sharp end of efforts to reform and can offer us crucial perspectives and learnings from their time as heads of government.”
Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said:
“No one wants to be poorer. No one is content with stagnation. Everyone wants a better life, especially for our children. That’s why economic growth is vital, not just for future prosperity and security, but for subsequent happiness too because all of us are more content when we can look forward to a brighter future. I’m pleased and proud to support the work of The Growth Commission and believe that its message of lower taxes and less regulation to aid human flourishing could not be more timely.”
Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said:
“I want The Growth Commission to trigger a broad debate amongst EU leaders as to how to shape future policy if we are to remain competitive in the global race alongside the likes of the U.S. and China. Real action is needed – and urgently. Building a strong consciousness in our societies should help to redefine the EU’s priorities. As a member of the International Advisory Board I am pleased to offer my broad experience to support The Growth Commission in acting for a strong Europe.”
Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said:
“I am honoured to be joining the Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board and will be pleased to contribute to this important initiative. The Commission’s focus on pro-growth economic policies aligns closely with my views, and I appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed colleagues on these critical issues. I look forward to supporting its work and engaging in meaningful discussions.”
Former Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas added:
“If we are to successfully grow our economies, we must stand on three pillars: free trade, keeping taxes as low as possible and significantly reducing regulations.”
Former Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša said:
“The Growth Commission and its work is really important because during ‘climate change obsession’ the West has forgotten that the most important real basis of prosperity is economic growth.”
Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss concluded:
“The Growth Commission has published excellent research setting out how and why the UK and European economies have fallen behind the U.S. I look forward to working with the Commission and fellow members of the International Advisory Board. We need cheap energy, less regulation and states that actually work. We also need to challenge the globalist economic orthodoxy, including the EU, that has promoted the terrible policies like Net Zero that have led to economic ruin.”
