Former Mongolian PM and President Elbegdorj Tsakhia joins Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board

The Growth Commission today announces Elbegdorj Tsakhia, the former Prime Minister and President of Mongolia, as the latest former national leader to join the ranks of our International Advisory Board.

He joins the likes of former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on the body of former leaders advising the thirteen members of The Growth Commission as they continue to focus on analysis of the policies which will best deliver economic growth.

Tsakhia was a central figure in Mongolia’s peaceful democratic revolution, ending 70 years of communist rule. He helped draft the country’s first democratic constitution and went on to serve his country twice as Prime Minister and twice as President.

Elbegdorj Tsakhia said on his appointment:

“Since my earliest years in public service, I have been guided by a firm commitment to individual liberty, free-market principles and a small but effective state. Joining The Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board offers a meaningful opportunity to exchange ideas, test assumptions and advance our shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. I am encouraged by the Commission’s mission, its record of serious work and the distinctive perspectives each member brings to the table.”

Welcoming Elbegdorj Tsakhia to the International Advisory Board, Shanker Singham, Chairman of The Growth Commission, said:

“We are thrilled to have former President Tsakhia join our International Advisory Board. He brings to the table invaluable experience in transforming a nation’s fortunes, having played a key role in democratising Mongolia and guiding its embrace of free market economic principles.”
