Former Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez joins Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board
The Growth Commission today announces Iván Duque Márquez, the former President of Colombia, as the latest former national leader to join our International Advisory Board.
He now sits alongside the likes of former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and former Mongolian Prime Minister and President Elbegdorj Tsakhia on the body of former leaders advising the fourteen members of The Growth Commission as they go about their work identifying the policies which will best deliver economic growth.
Iván Duque Márquez served as President of Colombia between 2018 and 2022, during which time he advanced a pro-growth agenda focused on entrepreneurship, digital transformation, infrastructure, financial inclusion, energy transition and sustainable investment. During his Presidency, Colombia strengthened its position as one of Latin America’s leading market economies, and achieved a strong post-pandemic recovery with growth reaching 10.6% in 2021.
President Duque said on his appointment:
“It is a great honour for me to contribute to The Growth Commission’s globally impactful work because triggering sustainable economic growth is the best way to close social gaps, expand incomes and expand the middle class. Economic growth requires a vibrant private sector and independent, technocratic-based institutions that facilitate the permanent creation of formal jobs. I’m committed to supporting The Growth Commission in this necessary global endeavour.”
Welcoming President Duque to the International Advisory Board, Shanker Singham, Chairman of The Growth Commission, said:
“We are delighted to have former President Duque become the eighth member of our International Advisory Board. He has a strong track record in office of delivering growth on an impressive scale and it is great to have such an influential Latin American voice playing his part in the Commission’s vital deliberations.”
