Latest growth figures give Chancellor ‘no room for complacency’
Growth Commission member Douglas McWilliams has issued the following response to the GDP figures for November 2025 that have been issued this morning:
“After four weak months, we saw GDP up by 0.3% in November, with the increase principally coming from the UK’s strongly growing tech sector, which bounced back after its decline in October. This amounts to GDP growth of 1.3% over the previous twelve months, and allowing for the latest migration data leaves annualised GDP per capita growing at just 0.9%.
“This boost from November predates any of the announcements from the Budget coming into force and the enactment of the Employment Rights Act, both of which will act as a headwind to growth. The UK is growing at about a third of the rate of the American economy, which is less held back by high taxes and costly environmental regulations. The Chancellor has no room for complacency.”
