Former Polish President joins Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board
The Growth Commission is today delighted to announce Andrzej Duda, President of Poland between 2015 and 2025, as the ninth national leader to join our International Advisory Board.
He now sits alongside the likes of former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and former Colombian President Iván Duque on the body of national leaders advising the fourteen members of The Growth Commission as they go about their work identifying the policies which will best deliver economic growth.
Andrzej Duda served as President of Poland for two terms between 2015 and 2025, during which period the country’s economy underwent an historic transformation, with real GDP growth averaging 3.6% annually and the economy officially becoming one of the twenty largest in the world.
Prior to serving as President, he served variously as a member of the City Council of Kraków, Deputy Minister of Justice, Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President and was a Member of the European Parliament. Since leaving office he has founded Fundacja Central European 3Seas Institute – Andrzej Duda Foundation, joined the Concordia Leadership Council and become a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at The Heritage Foundation.
On Sunday 18th October he participated in the “Japan Is Back” conference The Growth Commission co-hosted in Tokyo, alongside existing members of the International Advisory Board, Liz Truss and Petr Nečas, and four members of The Growth Commission. Following the conference, he accepted the invitation to join the Commission’s International Advisory Board and is pictured below with Commission Chairman Shanker Singham.
President Duda said on his appointment:
“I was grateful for the invitation to join The Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board, which I am equally pleased to accept. The Commission does extremely important work in highlighting the best ways to deliver economic growth and in particular I applaud its recent paper calling on the G20 to recognise Poland as a permanent member. I look forward to playing my part in supporting The Growth Commission in its vital endeavours.”
Welcoming President Duda to the International Advisory Board, Shanker Singham, Chairman of The Growth Commission, said:
“Poland has an exemplary record in recent years when it comes to economic growth, market openness and regulatory discipline. I am therefore delighted that the President who oversaw such a successful decade for the Polish economy is joining our International Advisory Board. His is an incredibly important voice on the world stage and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
Rt Hon Liz Truss, Chairman of The Growth Commission’s International Advisory Board, added:
“President Duda is a great friend and ally. His participation in the recent Growth Commission conference in Tokyo demonstrated his commitment to the cause of furthering economic growth across the West and we look forward to further collaboration in the future.”
